Who are Girls in Tech – Dublin | #TheTakeover

This article was written by DTS18 partners, Girls in Tech – Dublin, as part of Dublin Tech Week’s #TheTakeover series.

Girls In Tech is a global non-profit focused on the engagement, education and empowerment of women and girls who are passionate about technology. Founded in 2007 in San Francisco by Adriana Gascoigne, GIT aims to accelerate the growth of innovative women in the high tech industry and building startups.

The Dublin chapter, established in March 2017, aims to help bridge the gender gap around funding and investment for female founders, provide networks, mentorships and supports to help overcome gender barriers and promote equality and inclusivity for both men and women.

Mentorship can be key for career growth, especially for younger practitioners. A great mentor encourages you, helps you think strategically and sets you up for success.

To address the gender imbalance in the tech fields and see more women progress in the industry this is particularly important. Connecting with someone who is more experienced and can give valuable feedback, builds your confidence and prepares you for real-world challenges.

For this reason, GIT are excited to be partnering with Dublin Tech Summit and Harvey Nash on ‘Stepping Up’, a series of events centered around inspiring mentorship for women in tech. The popularity of the first event on Tuesday 17th April, which sold out in record time, shows just how valued and needed this kind of support is. Further exciting events in this series are in the pipeline so for anyone who didn’t manage to get a ticket this time, stay tuned for future announcements!
